Distance and time

What six hours allow, driving included

Giverny lies 75 km west of Paris, 4 km from Vernon, on the road to Rouen. The route planner gives 75 to 80 km and 1 hr 09 min to 1 hr 16 min without traffic from Paris, checked on 19 October 2026. If the six hours of the package run from departure to return, that leaves about 3 hr 28 min to 3 hr 42 min on site, without traffic: an estimate, not a guaranteed time.

Those 3 hr 28 min to 3 hr 42 min leave time for the house and gardens, then lunch in the village or a stroll through its lanes before heading back. If you want to stay longer, say so in the request: extra time is priced in advance and confirmed before the ride. For a day with no fixed timetable, hourly hire with a chauffeur is more flexible.

Before you book

Season, tickets, drop-off point

  • A season, not all year

According to the Foundation, the house and gardens are open from 1 April to 1 November 2026, every day. Outside those dates they are closed, so choose your day accordingly.

  • Tickets not included

Prices shown by the Foundation: €13 per adult, €7 aged 7 to 17, free under 7.

  • Drop-off at the entrance

Your driver sets you down right by the entrance and collects you at the agreed spot, at the time you set together.

Daily opening hours differ between the Foundation's pages: check them in its useful information before you set the departure time. Season and prices recorded on 19 October 2026 from the search-engine extract of that page (the site could not be reached that day) and cross-checked on giverny.org.

No ambiguity

The driver drives and waits; the exploring is up to you

What the driver does

  • Collects you from your Paris address, child seats fitted.
  • Sets you down at the entrance to the house and gardens.
  • Waits while you are on site, at no extra cost within the six hours; beyond that, extra time is priced in advance.
  • Brings you back to Paris, to your hotel or another address.

What the driver does not do

  • No commentary on Monet, his paintings or his gardens.
  • No entry with you into the house or gardens.
  • No tickets: admission is bought from the Foundation.
An honest comparison

Train and shuttle bus, or a private driver?

OptionPublic priceWorth knowing
Train from Saint-Lazare, then shuttle bus Vernon ↔ Giverny shuttle: €10 return per person; train fare depends on the date You take a train from Saint-Lazare to Vernon-Giverny station, under 45 minutes on the fastest services, then a shuttle bus from spring to autumn. You need to get to Saint-Lazare and fit both legs around the train and shuttle timetables.
Precelya private driver €455 (sedan) · €545 (7-seat van), for the car Leaves from your address at the time you choose, waiting included over six hours, child seats fitted, no timetable to follow.

Train and shuttle: giverny.org getting-there page, read on 19 October 2026. We have not recorded a train fare: it varies with the date.

In practice: travelling alone or as a couple, with some flexibility on times, the train and shuttle do the job. As a family, three or more, or if you would rather leave from the hotel without counting connections, one price for the whole car, door to door, makes the day simpler.

With children

Giverny with children

In France a child travels in a suitable seat up to age 10. Give each child's age in the request: the driver brings the right seat and fits it before you leave, at no extra cost. With over an hour on the road each way, a properly adjusted seat matters. The guaranteed V-Class van takes 7 passengers, with room for a pushchair and a picnic bag. Details are on our family private driver page.

Frequently asked questions about a Giverny day trip with a driver

How much is a Giverny day trip with a private driver?

The package costs €455 in an E-Class sedan (3 passengers), €545 in a V-Class van (7 passengers); the S-Class costs €689, VAT included. It covers the drive from your Paris address, waiting on site and the drive back, over 6 hours, for the whole car.

How much time do we get in Giverny?

The route planner gives 75 to 80 km and 1 hr 09 min to 1 hr 16 min without traffic between Paris and Giverny. If the 6 hours run from departure to return, that leaves about 3 hr 28 min to 3 hr 42 min on site, without traffic: enough for the house and gardens, then lunch in the village.

Is Monet's house open all year round?

No. According to the Claude Monet Foundation's website, the house and gardens are open from 1 April to 1 November 2026, every day. Check your chosen date and the day's opening hours on the official website before booking.

Are admission tickets included?

No. The package covers the car, the driver, waiting time and child seats. Tickets are bought from the Foundation: €13 for an adult and €7 for a child aged 7 to 17, free under 7, according to its website on 19 October 2026.

Does the driver come into the house and gardens with us?

No. The driver takes you there, drops you at the entrance, waits with the car and brings you back to Paris. They make no comment on Monet or the gardens and do not go in with you: you set your own route.

What if we want to stay longer?

Extra time is priced in advance: mention it in your request and its price is confirmed to you before the ride. Nothing is added without your agreement.

Can we add another stop to Giverny?

The package is a Paris ↔ Giverny return. One more stop, in Vernon for example, can be requested in advance and built into the fixed price; for a looser day, hourly hire with a driver gives more freedom.

Can I cancel the Giverny day?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the pick-up time.
